New marketing media
I chose to name my blog as Online Marketing, instead of SEO or SEM (search engine marketing), simply because I believe it would be too narrow minded to look at SEO or SEM in isolation. I must confess however that it is SEO where I started getting addicted to online marketing.
In the UK, probably worldwide also, thousands of business startups choose SEM to be the main marketing strategy or even their business plan. The reason for it is simply because SEM (or SEO) is of low risk, totally managable and delivers measurable results.
Search engine marketing became a standard business start up solution whatever industry you are in. It is the most efficient and cost effective way of researching your market, before you even decide to throw in a large amount of money. Search engine marketing is just like a mirror reflection of traditional marketing concept; whatever your marketing goals are, you are able to find an online approach to meet them.
I would like to put SEO or SEM into the large picture of online marketing, which includes marketing using all other online elements, such as email marketing and online social marketing, online PR and branding. I certainly don't want to fall into the pitch of SEO technology or even worse, into technical tricks of SEO blackhat that undoubtedly, would be abandoned someday. The even more important issue is that, marketing needs to be related to business and corporate strategies all the time, i.e. the reason for marketing activities.
Welcome to New media marketing, where we believe everything is possible with online marketing.
